Grand Seiko Launches Elegance Collection SBGW325 Limited Edition Watch
In 2001, Grand Seiko released the SBGW003, the first timepiece to feature the 9S manual-winding movement. Today, the brand pays tribute to this significant classic with the launch of the Elegance Collection SBGW325.
The SBGW325 retains the same case proportions and design as the SBGW003, measuring 37.3mm in diameter, 11.7mm in thickness, and 44.3mm lug-to-lug. The stainless steel case features Zaratsu (distortion-free) polishing and is equipped with a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, as well as a screw-down, see-through case back; it offers splash resistance for daily use.
The dial features a matte deep blue finish inspired by traditional indigo dyeing techniques. The Arabic numeral hour markers replicate the classic design of the SBGW003, though the color has been changed from gold to silver. The faceted Dauphine-style hour and minute hands feature a combination of polished and brushed finishes, while the gold seconds hand and GS logo stand out prominently. Notably, the SBGW325 repositions the "GS" logo and "Grand Seiko" text—previously located above the 6 o'clock marker—to below the 12 o'clock marker, while the "SEIKO" text originally found there has been removed.
The SBGW325 is powered by the 9S64 manual-winding movement, an evolution of the 9S54 movement found in the SBGW003; the power reserve has been increased from 50 hours to 72 hours. The 9S64 movement contains 24 jewels, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and offers a daily accuracy of +5/-3 seconds. The exquisite striped finishing of the movement can be admired through the transparent case back.
The Grand Seiko Elegance Collection SBGW325 comes with two straps: a hand-dyed blue crocodile leather strap and a grey calfskin strap. Quick-release spring bars allow for convenient replacement.
